Nastya Roshuk
Film director with a passion for colors and all things spicy and quirky.
Born in Belarus and now based in Germany, Veronika first fell in love with cinema at home, binge-watching everything from Barry Sonnenfeld’s The Addams Family to Kusturica’s Black Cat, White Cat. It didn’t take long before she started making her own films, often casting friends, family, and occasionally the family pet.
Her journey began in theater school, where she first stepped on stage, followed by art school, then media design and film studies in Germany, and finally film in London.
Her films are visually poetic and socially conscious, often sharpened with satire. For Veronika, comedy usually arrives after the drama, when the tears have already fallen and the absurdity finally becomes funny.
Her work has been selected for international talent labs and festivals including the Hessen Talent Lab, Interfilm, Aesthetica Film Festival, Lichter Film Festival, TFL Screen of Tomorrow Torino, Polish International Film Festival, and even Comic Con.
In 2022 she was awarded a STEP scholarship by Hessen Film and Media, followed by a development grant for her debut feature Awakening.
When not behind the camera, Veronika tests her timing and absurdist humor as a stand-up comedian in Berlin and beyond, seeing whether her jokes land as well as her films.
YOUNG VERONIKA
Mom, I’m thinking about becoming a film director.
MOM
(busy, typing on her computer)
Oh, dear, isn’t that usually a job for men?
YOUNG VERONIKA
Alright. I’ll go ask Dad.
MOM
Alright. He is in the kitchen,
cooking lasagna for dinner.
